High percentage of Military personnel suffering from Nightmare Disorders

In a recent study it has been shown that military personnel with sleep disturbances show high rate of nightmare disorder. The study evaluates that these people with reported nightmares as a result of sleep evaluation had an increased risk of other sleep and mental disorders. A nightmare disorder may occur when repeated nightmares cause distress or impairment in social or occupational functioning. It is highly prevalent in military personnel but is under recognized until now. Thus, a need for providing education to military personnel and health care providers is there about nightmare disorder and related treatments available.
